Plants in the Classroom

Add plants ... lots of living, breathing, healthy plants. Fertilize and water them regularly. Dead or dying plants trap chi; strong, healthy plants help to move chi around the room. Select plants that have rounded leaves, such as geranium, boxwood, jade and peacock plants. Never use plants with pointed leaves such as palm or leaves with a negative symbolism like the spearhead shaped caladium. I know it sounds crazy, but when you consider the subconscious symbolism that the Chinese interpret as poison arrows, it begins to make sense. Above all, never have a cactus plant!

A plant placed on the corner of your desk will energize that Bagua area. This plant, with its paper-covered pot will energize the family area of your desk the left center as you sit at your desk (east).

A flowering white plant will energize the creativity area of your room center right (west).

Hanging spider plants bring much-needed oxygen into a classroom and they are easy to propagate.

The jade plant with its beautiful, curved leaves is the perfect choice for your career area (north.) It is also very easy to care for.

The Chinese money plant is perfect for the far left corner (southeast) of any room it invites wealth and prosperity.

Chia pets are still fun. Try this one or any of the other chia characters. The terra cotta base goes well in the southwest earth area of the classroom.
